Birch Kitchen Cabinets

Birch Kitchen Cabinets

Birch kitchen cabinets are very classic cupboards.  This particular wood is very soft, lush and has a natural beauty that is highly appealing.

Like cherry wood, it has the ability to stain well and is very smooth to the touch.  The grain patterns in this type of wood feature delicate waves and flows.  It provides a kitchen with a very warm, cozy and charming atmosphere and is a pleasant choice for many decorating styles.

Birch is a strong hardwood and makes for a very durable cabinet.  They are highly resistant to damage and will hold up well against bumps and scrapes.  This makes birch kitchen cabinets a good choice for family kitchens.  What’s more is they are one of the least costly of hardwood cupboard choices, so if you have a budget to worry about, you can still obtain a great product at a price you should be able to afford.

If you are not familiar with what birch looks like, here are some things for you to keep in mind:

- It is naturally a light to medium toned wood that typically features colors that range from cream to yellow undertones. Don't expect to find black kitchen cabinets in this wood.

- It does not have a consistent graining and color intensity.  It features burls or small knots.

- It can be stained different colors, to give it a darker and richer appearance.  A common birch cabinet finish is medium brown, but there are other finishes available, including a white to pinky-brown.

Since this is what you should expect of birch kitchen cabinets, you should know that if you would like darker wood tones or a consistent grain appearance, this particular wood may not be the best choice for you, as there are only so many ways you can alter it to achieve the design you are after.

Birch Kitchen Cabinets Work Nicely With Darker Decor

That being said, while birch may have an overall plain appearance, it does contrast very beautifully with darker features in the kitchen.  For instance, birch looks fantastic with dark granite and black or stainless steel appliances.  It mixes well with both light and dark colors, so you can freely choose from a variety of different colored accents, walls and floors and gives kitchens a very clean, homey and warm feeling - A feeling that is not so easily achieved with other type of cupboards, such as black kitchen cabinets, which are far more limited in terms of interior design ideas.

What you will discover is that birch kitchen cabinets look great in rustic, country, contemporary, traditional, European, etc. style kitchens.  Your space can be made to look as elegant, natural or pristine as you want.  It’s simply a matter of the design and color of the birch you buy, the handles or knobs you place on the cupboards and the rest of the elements you use to compliment your cabinets and decorate the area.  For ideas, check out pictures online, browse through magazines or visit show rooms for inspiration.
